Our Vision
RMGS is committed to share Bhavya And Divya Gujarati culture with rocky mountain region via fun filled events and strong participation from youth & seniors!
History
Rocky Mountain Gujarati Samaj, Inc. (RMGSI) was formed as a non-profit corporation in the State of Colorado. The Organization received it’s tax exempt status from the Internal Revenue Service under the section 501(c)4 of the Internal Revenue Code.
RMGSI was formed to promote knowledge, appreciation, and understanding of the dance, music and cultural practices of the people of Gujarat province in India, to provide social interaction and cultural exchange between people whose families are descendants of Gujarati people of India who are now residing in the Rocky Mountain region of the United States. The goal of the organization is to make traditional Gujarati performing and cultural arts available to the members.
RMGS Activities
We hold one youth event every year. Youth event is geared towards young children under the age of 12. This year our youth event attracted more than 200 participants making this event one of the best in the history of the organization.
We will have annual picnic during summer months. During the picnic, our members will get together and sample Gujarati food, play cultural games and learn traditional songs. We anticipate over 350 people at the picnic this year.
We plan to hold a Garba festival annually. For Gujarati people this is the most important event of the year. Our festival is held over two weekends. In Gujarat this festival lasts for 10 days but the organization will hold the festival on 4 nights over the weekends. The organization plans to bring artists from Houston this year for this festival. The artists sing and members dance traditionally to their songs in a circle around the picture of god. We expect approx. 850 people nightly attending this event.
We will hold Diwali and New Year’s celebration in October. This will include participation from members in dance, plays, songs, etc. as part of the cultural concert and talent show. We will have traditional dinner as part of the event and do expect approx. 450 people attending this event. This is a chance for the community to greet Happy New Year to each other and trade well wishes.
